Powder Mill Community Services, Inc. provides non-medical support and training, and will make arrangements for reasonable local transportation for the individual to engage in community activities within their own local area based on the identified needs. Relatives or legal guardians approved by the Developmental Disabilities Administration are allowed to provide transportation services.
As a DDA provider, Powder Mill Community Services, Inc. shall prioritize use of public transportation and will choose the least expensive form of transportation (where necessary) based on the individual goals and outcomes. This includes what is significant to and for the individual as documented in their person-centered plan and will incorporate formal teaching approaches like systematic education.
Transportation services may include:
- Orienting individuals to services to enhance safe movement using other senses or support mechanisms.
- Facilitating access to mobility services, such as transportation coordination and resource utilization.
- Conducting travel training to assist individuals and their families in learning how to safely use informal, generic, and public transportation for independence and community integration.
- Offering services through different modalities, including public and community options.
- Providing mileage reimbursement for transportation by another individual using their own vehicle.
- Purchasing prepaid transportation vouchers and cards.
